The Soft Distances

Handmade paper casting | Height: 280 cm | 2025

The Soft Distances is an installation of fragmented paper castings that map the aerial patterns of water infrastructure routes. Suspended and layered, the delicate forms transform practical networks into an ethereal, tactile landscape, where distance, flow, and fragmentation become perceptible through material and space.

The work extends my ongoing exploration of hidden systems—linking the qanat-inspired structures of Iran to broader reflections on ecological, neural, and hydrological networks. By translating functional infrastructure into fragile, floating forms, The Soft Distances investigates the tension between permanence and impermanence, the visible and the invisible, and invites contemplation of memory, movement, and the subtle connections that structure both environment and imagination.
